Road to recovery

Sadly during the easter holiday i have injured myself whilst playing football. Now the first 2 weeks of the holiday were very unproductive for me, my life consisted of laying in bed watching daytime T.V & DVD’s… I decided that the best way of me incorporating the transformation teachers work with what i was going through was to make a mini video about my injury and my road to recovery… Its amazing i kind of overlooked how important my knee was to me, and how i actually hate the idea of being inactive… Not only have i not been able to do something that i love doing (playing football) day to day things like walking up & down stairs are very very painful indeed.

Luckily after my visit to the fracture clinc on the 13th revealed no major damage, i.e. i have not snapped anything but the Dr. did say it was probably best i rest my knee and gave me 3 weeks off of work – along with an appointment with the physio. On the bright side of things i also finally got to removed that blasted uncomfortable full knee splint.

19th April : The physio… OMG how painful – I was well and truely put through my paces with the exercises… Now i hahve to go through all this everyday to build my strength up…

My Video Diary

Excuse the messy bedroom – it is not normally that bad!  Honest, just not been able to sort it out!

The North London Derby

Having missed out on my trip to Seville and having a season ticket at spurs, I was not looking forward to the prospect of having to miss out on this big event… So I decided to call up spurs ticket office and see if they could help me out on this occasion.  I received a call back from the disabled ticket office explaining that this was a sold out fixture and was unlikely they could help but would call back if anything comes up.

I received a call on Friday saying that they unfortunately had no spaces in the disabled supporters section but they did however have a space in the west stand executive boxes for the game.

Day of the game got dropped off outside the ground and hobbled on my crutches to collect my ticket for the box.  Entering the box I was met by 7 other people all in the same predicament as myself, with some form of injury so the “getting to know each other” period was exchanging war stories of how we did our injuries.

The game itself was a very poor performance however we managed to get a last gasp equaliser to get a draw. Thanks to this beauty from Jermain Jenas

As for the box itself, it was a nice experience however I would have preferred to have been right in the thick of the atmosphere with my friends to enjoy this occasion.

At least I got out the house, saw an ok fixture and didn’t throw away yet more money as a result of my injury.  So in a way the soreness felt as I got home was worth it.

What a week it has been, not only have i had to endure the pain but i have had to set all the cover work for the week (all 17 lessons), but finish up all my year 11 courseworks too all 50 odd pieces that i had planned to do over the easter period…

Saying that this wonderful site has helped me out alot http://yacapaca.com/teacher/ it enabled me to set some online tests and monitor who has done the work whilst i am away, and can chase up those who have done nothing when i get back ;-)   It has alot of different subjects and is easy to set up and administor…. Paperless teaching, i am begining to like this!!

Now this week is out of the way i have to finish up my video diary thingy i been working on, but set the next lot of cover for 21 lessons…. Sometimes i just wish i could go in and teach! Still NLD tomorrow

The pain in spain…

Well today I was supposed to be heading to Spain with my friends to watch spurs play in the UEFA cup against
Seville… Not only did I have to rush to get my passport ready in time, but the 2 day trip cost around £300 for flight & match ticket…

Sadly I have injured my knee and have been advised by the hospital not to travel as it could cause complications with the recovery, so a rather large number of phone calls to various “spurs fans” in a bid to shift the ticket & flight proved unfruitful, meaning I had to bite the bullet and accept an offer of a mere £100 for the lot.

After the event it was probably a good idea that I didn’t take the chance and go as the rather nice Spanish police thought it was a good idea to attack anything within arms reach and with my knee in a splint and me on crutches I would have had no where to run!

Transformation Teachers Day 1.

Arrived at the CLC for Transformation teachers programme, I had very little idea as to what the course was about I just had some times & dates with a vague explanation about the course.

Upon arrival I was greeted by Judy Jakes, who incidentally was my form tutor when I was at school, said quick hellos and had a mini catch up before the course began.

We sat and were given the course outline with more details of what we were here for, and then the good part… We were told about a number of “goodies” we were to be given. Today was the 1st instalment, we were given a digital camera and tripod to use in our teaching throughout the duration of the TTP, and we are to set up an account to upload a number of pictures that possibly other people may wish to use. Sadly at this point I have no access to flickr @ work as it is blocked and I am working on getting this “issue” resolved with the ICT technicians, sadly my internet at home is not working so I am unable to do it there. At least the edublog site is not blocked! – I will have to, as a last resort, find some space to upload the pictures onto.

I decided that some useful pictures I could use are the parts of the computers, as I am currently doing some revision with year 11 about hardware devices. During the lesson the pupils thought I was a bit crazy taking the back off an old computer and taking photos of the various parts contained within it – hopefully they will see the benefit of this, and that I am not some crazy computer part obsessive freak!
